Jump to recipeThis Mushroom Cheeseball is about to become one of your favorite appetizers! I started making this cheeseball over 20 years ago and it’s still requested by my family for every holiday, event or party that we have.
Easy, Make Ahead Prep
One thing I love about cheeseball recipes, is that they come together quickly and can be made ahead of time. I have made these up a couple of days before I needed them, but I don’t roll them in the pecans until right before I’m ready to serve them.

My youngest daughter and my son-in-law don’t care for any type of nuts in their food, so if any of my recipes call for nuts, I make a smaller amount for them and just leave the nuts out. So, every time I make Mushroom Cheeseball, Madison gets her own miniature cheeseball, minus the pecans. Yes, my children are all a little bit spoiled! 😂
I also know that many people don’t care for mushrooms, so feel free to leave them out according to your preference. However, I do recommend giving it a try with the mushrooms. My son is not a huge mushroom fan, but he loves this cheeseball.
Make A Festive Mushroom Cheeseball
Cheeseball recipes are also fun to mold into different shapes for each holiday. Try a heart shape for Valentine’s day, an egg shape for Easter and pumpkin for Halloween or Thanksgiving. For Christmas you can mold them into a Christmas tree, bell or wreath I had a friend who brought a really cute one to a Thanksgiving dinner and she had it shaped like a turkey!
My recipe calls for canned or jarred mushrooms, but I have used fresh mushrooms if I have them on hand. Your cheeseball will last up to a week in the refrigerator with the jarred or canned mushrooms. If you use fresh mushrooms, it will usually only last for about 3-4 days in the refrigerator.
This recipe is easy and pretty straight-forward, but as always, if you have any questions, please ask in the comment section below, or contact me via email. Enjoy!
