I wish I didn’t need to create a post titled, “20 Perfect Gifts For The Stressed Out Mom”. Unfortunately stress is a part of life. At times, stress smacks us all in the face. This post is geared toward mothers, but most of these gifts are great for anyone dealing with stress or anxiety.
Stress Happens to All of Us
Believe it or not, I too know a little about stress. Contrary to what Instagram would have us believe, everything that glitters is not gold. I remember one incident many years ago when my husband and I pastored a church. At that point in time my four children were all under 11 or 12 years old. I was homeschooling all four of them, fulfilling the duties of a pastor’s wife, teaching a Sunday School Class and I was also the Children’s Church Administrator. To say I was busy on a normal day was a serious understatement.
On one particular week, things got totally crazy! I had eight members of my husbands family that came to visit from out of town. We were thrilled to have them, however, one of the families in our church had an unexpected death in the family. So, on Monday, I attended the funeral visitation. I also organized and prepared food for the family to have afterwards. On Tuesday, I attended the funeral, organized, prepared food and supervised clean up after the services. Now, keep in mind that in between all of this, I was still teaching school to my four children and being hostess to my in-laws.
Wednesday was spent playing catch up at home and we had service on Wednesday night. On Thursday, I had to decorate, prepare food and supervise clean up for a baby shower that had been planned before any of these other things came up. This brings us into Friday, which also happened to be the date for our annual Harvest Party.

Wait, What?!
Originally, the party was planned for 7:30, but I announced on Wednesday that we were changing the time to 6:00. Friday was spent decorating and preparing food. That night at the party, I had a lady come up to me and ask, why in the world had I changed the time from 7:30 to 6:00? I smiled and told her that I was exhausted and had hoped to make it to bed before 2:00 in the morning. Believe it or not, she looked at me quite irritated, and said, “You need a job working 9:00 to 5:00, then you’ll know what it means to be tired.” 🤦♀️ 🤦♀️ 🤦♀️ 🤦♀️
The lady did come back later that night to apologize. The fact is, she had probably had a stressful week as well. Thankfully, I had some wonderful people who helped me every day during this very hectic week, otherwise I would have never been able to pull it off. My point is, be kind when people say they are tired or stressed. We all deal with it, some handle it better than others, but a little kindness and compassion can make stress much easier to deal with. Just because someone isn’t coping with your brand of stress, doesn’t mean it isn’t there, or very real.
